Training Runs

In preparation for the 2008 Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay and family fitness activities, GO! St. Louis will host a series of informal training runs in Forest Park on the following Saturdays:

January 5 - Sponsored by Big River Running Company
January 19 - Sponsored by The Running Center
February 2 - Sponsored by Fleet Feet
February 16 - Sponsored by Big Shark
March 1 - Sponsored by Ghisallo Running
March 15 - Sponsored by GO! St. Louis
March 29 - Sponsored by Toolen's Running Start

Registration for the runs will begin at 7:30 a.m. in lobby of the Forest Park Visitor's Center.  The runs will begin at 8:00 a.m., when participants (runners and walkers) will be invited to join a group that matches their running or walking pace and complete one or more laps of Forest Park.  Depending where runners are in their preparation for the April 6 Marathon, participants may complete one or more laps of the park (each lap is 5.6 miles).  The training runs conclude at 11:30 a.m.

Children, participating in the Read, Right and Run Marathon®, are invited to attend the Training Runs.  Children’s registration begins at 8:00 a.m.  The run starts at 8:15 a.m.  Children run one – two miles as part of their prescribed training and preparation for the April 5 culminating events in Forest Park.  Children must be accompanied to the Training Runs by a parent, who will need to sign a waiver for the child to participate.

Each Training Run is sponsored by a St. Louis area running store.  The stores provide refreshments and can offer suggestions for the appropriate running shoes and apparel.  In addition, doctors from the St. Louis Injury and Rehabilitation Center will be available to offer training and injury prevention tips and address runners’ questions.
