City of St. Louis Employees Walk 9,861 Miles in Six Weeks

More than 215 City of St. Louis employees participated in the GO! St. Louis Mile-by-Mile Marathon® – a pilot program from GO! St. Louis – which encouraged employees to walk or run 26.2 miles in a six week period.  In total, participants eclipsed 9,861 miles during the time frame, which was in cooperation with the City’s Bee Fit wellness program.

Participants began earning mileage in September starting with a kick-off walk to the Arch, and concluded on November 14 with a special medal ceremony at City Hall. Walkers and runners who completed the program received a t-shirt, medal and certificate signed by Mayor Francis Slay and GO! St. Louis President Nancy Lieberman.

Of special note was participant Deanna Cecil who logged an incredible 444.9 miles and was successful in her goal to lose weight. Great job Deanna, keep up the good work!

At the medal presentation, participants were delighted with the program and vowed to continue getting fit one step at a time.

“The GO! St. Louis Mile-by-Mile Marathon® wellness program was successful in large part because City of St. Louis coordinators Karen Toal and Shawna Norton were highly motivated in getting employees involved,” said Nancy Lieberman. “I’m very proud of all of the participants and encourage them to continue their training, in the hope they will make fitness a regular part of their lives,” she continued.

GO! St. Louis will continue to encourage area companies and organizations to make fitness a top priority for their employee’s wellness. For more information on the GO! St. Louis Mile-by-Mile Marathon® call 314-727-0800.
