ST. LOUIS (MO) – March 4, 2011 – GO! St. Louis, a local non-profit organization that specializes in providing fitness events and programs for the St. Louis region on a year-round basis, announced today a special one-day healthy nutrition ”Gorilla Marketing” promotion. The GO! Bananas promotion, set for March 10 at 7am, will encourage people to make fruit part of their daily diet. GO! St. Louis’ staff and volunteers will be distributing more than 4,500 bananas at area street corners and intersections throughout the St. Louis area.
“The GO! Bananas promotion was designed to encourage area residents to make fruit, and in this case bananas, part of their daily diet,” said Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis president. “The general public is more familiar with the high quality events and programs we present year-round, which center on increasing their fitness levels, so we wanted to introduce a new component that brought some much-needed awareness to proper nutrition” she continued.
Volunteers in bright yellow banana-themed t-shirts will be distributing bananas in St. Louis City, Clayton and Creve Coeur. The exact locations include: Market & Tucker, Market & 4th Street, Carondelet & Central, Forsyth & Central, Forsyth & Hanley and Olive & Ballas. Commuters will be handed a single banana with a special sticker that encourages them to eat healthy.
The GO! Bananas promotion is a prelude to the 11th Annual GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend, set for April 9 & 10, and attracts 25,000 participants and more than 50,000 spectators.
About Bananas: At about 110 calories per medium banana, bananas are a superfood, providing an excellent source of vitamin B6 and a good source of potassium, fiber and vitamin C - nutrients that help promote heart health.
